1. What is the difference between AXA WiseGuard Medical Insurance Plan (“WiseGuard Medical”) and other medical products?
Wiseguard Medical is certified under the Voluntary Health Insurance Scheme (“VHIS”). The terms and conditions and benefit items in VHIS are regulated and recognized by the government to provide convenient, sustainable, quality and transparent protection. Tax deduction is only applicable to plans under VHIS.
2. Does WiseGuard Medical only accept application from Hong Kong residents?
Yes, we only accept Hong Kong residents to apply for WiseGuard Medical on HKTV Mall.
3. Any age restriction on the insured person?
Yes. The issue age is from 25 months old to age of 80. The benefit period is up to age of 100.
4. What payment mode can I choose?
Premium of the first year can only be paid by annual mode.
5. Do I need to declare my health when I apply for WiseGuard Medical? Is it sure to be underwritten?
You must disclose your health conditions. We will assess the risks of the insured person through underwriting procedure and decide to:
- Accept application
- Reject application
Your coverage starts as soon as your policy becomes effective. If you have a pre-existing condition that you were not aware of and reasonably unaware of at the time you applied for your policy, we will reimburse your eligible expenses on a sliding scale starting from the second policy year.
6. If I work abroad after application and am hopsitalised overseas, am I covered?
Except psychiatric treatment, benefits provided by WiseGuard Medical are applicable worldwide.
7. Can I undergo more than one surgery in each hospitalisation?
Yes. The surgeon’s fee, anaesthetist's fee and operating theatre charges of each surgery will be subject to surgical category for the surgery in the schedule of surgical procedures and each benefit limit.
8. Can I enjoy cooling-off period if I apply for insurance online?
Yes, you can enjoy a cooling-off period which is within 21 calendar days immediately following either the day of delivery of the policy or the cooling-off notice (notifying you of the cooling-off period) to you (whichever is earlier).
9. Other than myself, for whom can I apply VHIS to meet the eligibility of tax deduction?
If you are a taxpayer in Hong Kong and apply VHIS for specified relatives, as a policyholder, you can claim a tax deduction for qualifying premiums paid by you in that year of assessment.
AXA will issue a notice which states the qualifying premium of the policy to the policyholder to apply for tax deduction. Specified relative includes:
- Spouse
- Child(ren)
- Parent(s) of you and your spouse
- Grandparent(s) of you and your spouse
- Sibling(s) of you and your spouse
- Step and adopted relationship also apply
Specified relatives of below should fulfil:

Parent(s) and grandparent(s) of you or your spouse, who is at any time during the year of assessment
- aged 55 or more; or
- under the age of 55 but eligible to claim an allowance under the Government’s Disability Allowance Scheme;

child(ren) or sibling(s) of you or your spouse, who is at any time during the year of assessment unmarried and
- under the age of 18; or
- aged 18 or more but under the age of 25 and receiving full time education at a university, college, school or other similar educational establishment; or
- aged 18 or more but incapacitated for work by reason of physical or mental disability.
10. Can there be more than one policyholder in each policy?
No. Each WiseGuard Medical can only be held by one policyholder.
11. Can I use Mall Dollar to settle payment?
No. Each AXA WiseGuard Medical can only use general credit cards for payment.
12. Can I settle payment with another HKTVmall items?
No. Not able to pay with other products for Each AXA WiseGuard Medical.
